Discover your hidden powers!

Petra Groot Nibbelink

A seminar with 12,000 people where everyone is bouncing with energy, that is what you get when you go to a Tony Robbins event! He is one of the most famous speakers in the world and coach to famous people like Bill Clinton, Andre Agassi, Princess Diana, and Serena Williams. Last week he was in London for the Unleash the Power Within program. Already my 3rd Tony Robbins event by now, but it remains impressive! 50 hours of seminar in 4 days and coming home with more energy than when you went. Then you might wonder, how is that possible?

For me, a dilemma arose a few weeks ago. In the past 7 months, I have had 2 surgeries with general anesthesia, so my own energy level was not exactly optimal. Not really the ideal condition for such an event. So 2 weeks before the event, I made the decision to temporarily stop with coffee, alcohol, and refined sugars. This had the desired effect, I felt my energy go up immediately!

Peak state

Besides having worked on my energy level myself, during the seminar they also make sure you don’t fall asleep. The substantive info and assignments are alternated with a lot of dancing and jumping. Then you might think, what nonsense, but the opposite is true. This makes you feel fitter and more energetic and you get into a different ‘state’ as Tony calls it. If you are in the right ‘state’ (peak state), learning goes much better too. And you really don’t have to continuously jump for this, your posture (standing straight and shoulders back) and a smile on your face already does a lot. The long days, from standing in line at 7 in the morning for a good spot until about 11 in the evening, were therefore perfectly manageable!

Barefoot over burning coals!

During the first seminar day, the firewalk takes place: walking barefoot over burning coals. This was the 2nd time for me, so I found it less nerve-wracking than last year, but I did immediately have the thought ‘am I not too relaxed’. Then you might wonder, how can you walk barefoot over coals of up to 260 degrees? For this, a whole process takes place to get you in the right state, so that you are ultimately convinced that you can do it and then you can do it too. During this preparation, I accidentally got hit in the face by a frantic dancing participant, which meant I had to go to first aid for a moment. In the end, it wasn’t too bad, but I wondered if I could still do the firewalk. After all, I had missed a whole part of the preparation. A coach then said to me: ‘this is just like in real life, sometimes you are completely prepared and you go for it, but there is an unexpected setback’. Do you then sit around moping, or do you know how to turn this around to keep going for it full force!

That motivated me, and full of energy I joined the firewalk and with success! With a big smile over the coals! The photo below was taken just after the firewalk.

Ultimately, you spend 4 days working on what you want in your life and how you get there. What is stopping you now from having the life you want. If you think you can do something, then you can do it too! After all, you can also walk barefoot over burning coals. So what limiting thoughts do you have that are keeping you from succeeding? For example, you think you can’t do it or that you are not cut out for it, and there are many more of those thoughts. If you can turn these around into positive thoughts, you achieve much more.

3 tips I would like to give you:

  • Make sure you stay in good energy, because then you can achieve much more and things go easier.

  • Focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want. Where focus goes, energy flows!

  • Use positive language. For example, if you often use words like difficult, heavy, complicated, you feel very differently than if you use positive words like challenge and learning moment.
