We have already reached the end of 2021, and on Saturday we will open a new book with 365 blank pages to color in! It is a great moment to look back on the past year. We often race through the daily grind, and I find it pleasant to pause for a moment to reflect on everything that has happened, what I have focused my attention on, and the successes I have achieved. At the same time, I also look at what I have paid less attention to and where there is room for improvement. For instance, a Facebook memory from two years ago flashed through my mind, showing me signing the agreement on December 30th for the purchase of the land and the construction of a house! The handover was last summer and resulted in a major but incredibly cool rollercoaster, and I am now living there with great pleasure. So, you could say that one of the main themes for me this year was my house.
Besides reflecting, it is of course also a great moment to look ahead again; a whole new year lies ahead of us with new possibilities and opportunities! So, what do you want to focus your attention on in the coming year? I have created my own method for this, which I use every year, and I am happy to share it. So, below are some practical tools if you would like to get started with this as well. It gives you more insight into what you would like to focus on and, very importantly, what you should focus on less.
It can help to divide your life into different areas. You will notice that you can never fully focus on all areas at the same time, and it helps you with focus. See below for a number of examples:
- Family
- Health
- Social contacts
- Work
- Financial
- Love
- Personal growth
- Leisure
- Home
Answer the following questions for yourself:
- What were the highlights of the past year?
- On which areas did you focus the most?
- What was 2021 not about?
- What would you have liked to see done differently?
- What will you take with you into 2022?
- On which 3 areas (listed above) would you like to focus your attention in the coming year?
- How are you going to tackle this concretely?
Now that we are forced to stay at home due to the lockdown, perhaps these are some fun questions to discuss with each other on New Year’s Eve!
Do you find it difficult, or do you feel the need to brainstorm about this? Let me know; I would be happy to help you.
Wishing you good luck and lots of inspiration, and of course, a very happy New Year!
